New Tour - Wenches In Trenches - The Nurses Of WW1

Wenches In Trenches - The Nurses Of WW1

April 25th - 26th 2020          £299 Per Person

We can now announce that after many years of being asked "when will you be doing a full tour?", Sue Robinson of the charity Wenches In Trenches has finally decided 2020 is that year! We can also announce that we are the company that she has chosen to work with to help deliver what is set to be an amazing weekend! Sue's knowledge of the workings, duties, set ups and more importantly, the personal stories behind many of the nurses and VADS that served on the Western Front is second to none and she even owns her own field hospital tent, which travels around the country bringing the girls of over 100 years ago back to life. Sue has raised funds for several memorials both home and abroad to honour these brave women who put their lives at risk to help save others and now she is ready to tell the stories of these amazing women.

Collection point will be the Premier Inn Dover (Central Eastern Ferry Terminal) with departure at 06:30 sharp. Rooms can be booked here for your stay the night before and after at your own cost should you so require.

Day One -

After a relaxing trip across the channel via ferry we will head straight into the thick of the action, as our first stop will be at Wimereux, famous as the final resting place of John McCrae. However this is not the reason for our stop here and as Sue takes you back into the Great War years and into the lives of the many nurses that are also honoured in this out of the way cemetery you will already feel like you know the these girls personally. Next up will be a stop at the lesser known area of Terlincthun, but what will become apparent is its an area that played a huge part in the Great War and is full of stories of our brave nurses and VADS. This will be followed by stops at what were in WW1, huge hospital bases at Boulogne and Etaples. Sue will again not only take you into the lives of the girls who served here, but also explain what was here and why. These sites never fail to hit you and this is only day one! Finally after a long day we will head down to Le Treport where you will hear stories that are not always spoken about, but none the less need telling and will stick in the mind for many a year to come. We will then head to, and check into our hotel where you will be welcome to join us at dinner together or have a stroll around the city of Amiens or Le Treport (Hotel location is yet to be confirmed) in your own time before getting some well earned rest.

Day Two -

After a good nights rest a full day lies ahead with our first stop being a very personal one to Sue. We will stop at Lochnagar where the Wenches In Trenches memorial bench and memorial to the women who served in WW1 stand. While here we will lay a wreath in remembrance of all who fell. Next up we will stop at the mighty Thiepval, no tour of the area, especially the Somme would be complete without this stop. As we head back up to the coastal areas and the main areas many of the nurses and VADS served we will stop off at amongst others, Lillers. Here Sue will again bring the stories of the girls alive and we will hear why we are standing there and what happened there all those years ago. Morbecque will be our next stop, and if you haven't been affected by the stories up to now, this will blow you away. We dont want to give to much away here but we can promise you that you will not be expecting it unless you know Sue very well! Our final stop will be where any tour that is telling the story of our brave nurses and VADS should end, that being St Omer. Again in WW1 this was a huge hospital site and with so many nurses and VADS now lying at rest here it will be a fitting end to hear the stories of those who risked their lives to save others. We will also have time to reflect here for a moment and take time to remember all those we have heard about, and not heard about over the weekend. We will then head back to Calais where our ferry will be around 21:45 with our arrival at Dover expected to be around 22:15.

This is set to be an amazing weekend where Sue Robinson will finally share her amazing knowledge on a subject she has supported and backed for so many years.
