*********SOLD OUT*********

After some fantastic battlefield tours we have once again teamed up with Alan Laishley of Portsmouth WW1 research, one of Portsmouth's lead Great war researchers, to bring you a tour that again is different from the last. As the title states, it is still based around the sites and stories of "Pompey" lads, but this time we will be concentrating on the Arras sector of France.

Collection points at - Shepherds Crook Pub 04:00, and Cosham Post Office 04:10. Other pick up points along the M25, M20 can be arranged for anyone wishing to join the tour outside the Portsmouth area.

Come and join us for two days visiting, honouring and walking the battlefields of Arras, and all with huge Pompey connections.

After a pleasant journey across the channel we head straight to the haunting and very moving Notre Dame De Lorette, ring of remembrance. Here the Pompey connections will already become apparent and you will start to learn about what the men of Portsmouth did in this sector. After lunch we will then head off to some well known and not so well known stops at Bac Du Sud British cemetery and Berles new military cemetery. Here Alan has unearthed some fascinating and moving stories and you will be gripped as you hear the tales of the men of Portsmouth, and what they did. Next up we stop at Bancourt and the awe inspiring Vis En Artois memorial and British cemetery. Here again the huge Pompey connections will come to light and you will learn about "normal" men who all became heroes.

After a long day on the battlefields, in the cemeteries and at the memorials, we will then head to our hotel in Arras. Once you are all refreshed you then have the option of joining us for a group meal, or wandering freely in the beautiful city of Arras and taking in some well earned sustenance!

Day Two - After some well deserved rest and a good breakfast we will then head out to a must stop when in or around Arras, The stunning Arras memorial to the missing , flying services memorial and Faubourg d'Amiens British Cemetery. You could easily spend a day here alone, there are so many stories. However we will be zooming right in and the Pompey connections and stories again all come to the surface. We move on from here to some smaller stops at Tilloy British cemetery and Dury Crucifix cemetery. Here again the research by Alan will enable us to bring  some amazing stories and forgotten men back to the forefront of your minds and let you spread their story for generations to come. After two more stops at the often passed Windmill and Monchy Le Preux cemetery, both again with strong Portsmouth connections and stories, we will head into the centre of Monchy Le Preux for some lunch and prepare for our afternoon!

Now you can visit as many cemeteries and memorials as you like, but there is nothing more informative or a better way to get a feel for where you are, or what was happening, than walking the ground! So after lunch, in a walk designed by Alan, you will literally walk in the footsteps of the men of Portsmouth. As you walk across the battlefields you will hear the stories of the area, the men of Pompey, and of the other regiments in this area. We will stop at some of the lesser visited cemeteries and sites and all with Portsmouth connections. This will be a gentle stroll and everyone will be encouraged to join, what will be an afternoon you will never forget. However, if anyone thinks they will struggle with the walk we will be operating a coach tour of the same area as the walk.

After an afternoon / early evening walking the ground that you wont forget, we will then head back to Calais for our ferry around 21:30. Estimated arrival back in Portsmouth will be 00:30

A non refundable deposit of £70 (£50 if paid before January 31st 2018) will secure your seat on this amazing two day tour with full payment to be received on or by March 31st 2019. We will accept payment by instalment as long as the final amount is made on time.
